Maintaining balance (whether be it physical, mental, emotional, or social) is something we all do in our everyday lives. Some faces it headstrong while others, including myself, find it challenging to deal with. How would you like to see yourself in a stressful situation?
Inner peace or also known as sanity is what keeps us going on our everyday adventures with life. In this article, I will be sharing with you some tips that helped me get reconnected with my inner peace. And I am writing it down not just to impart it with you but also as a reminder for if and when you and I will be needing a reconnection.
1. Acknowledge your feelings.
Keep in mind that feelings are emotions. And emotions have to have motion. It needs to flow. It desires to move. For me, writing it down on a journal or anything where I can pour it on is an effective tool. Talking it out to someone you trust can also be effective especially when things seem difficult. Accepting what you are feeling in a certain situation gives you the ability to be free of the unwanted burning desire to ruin your peace of mind. And this would not be easy for some. Why? Because denial, my friend, will creep into you like the boogeyman creeps under your bed. Better not be stubborn and just let your emotions flow. Feel your emotions. Cry or scream if you have to. If you think it will make you feel lighter, feel it while being safe at the same time. Harming yourself or anyone will just add to your burden. It is okay to succumb to your emotions but not for too long. Your feelings are valid, feel it and tell yourself, “I’ll give you less than 24 hours to stay with me.” And then let it go. Letting it stay with you for a longer period of time will just add up to your bulk list and you do not want that. Remember, life is short to dwell on things that are toxic to your soul.
2. Do something productive.
I hear and see this from almost everyone that I know. And yes, this suggestion is pretty much helpful. But for me, it has a deeper meaning. It is not just being productive externally but also internally. It is matching the productivity that your soul needs. Being productive is also one way of rejuvenating your energies. And each individual has a unique way of doing so. May it be drawing, writing, painting, cooking a meal, engaging in body workouts, or be it simple things such as binge-watching, reading a book, or just enjoying your solitude. We all have different ways of being productive. The idea is keeping your soul energized and feeding it with more positive ones. Now, if baking makes you feel good, do it. If laying on the couch all day makes you more relaxed, do it. If doing pilates makes your body feel much alive, do it. You see, it is not just about the bigger picture, it is also about the small, intricate details of the bigger picture. And if anybody tells you otherwise, it is their judgment and not yours. Do not make it yours. Do what is productive not just for your mind and body but also for your soul.
3. Engage with RESPECT.
Almost everyone I know spends most of their time on social media. And that is neither a good or a bad thing. It is one of the many forms of entertainment and ways of coping which each individual has the privilege to use at their own risk. But what makes it alarming is the number of broken relationships and increasing rate of hate and anger all because the other doesn’t agree with the other which is mostly shown in social media. Keyboard warriors, as some fancied to call it, are the most liberated beings when it comes to expressing their feelings. And like what I said, it is neither good or bad. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions which also comes with the saying, “Respect begets Respect“. It is true. And when you are engaging your opinions on social media, you are held liable to your words. They will either use it for you or against you. Not everybody will agree on what you believe and that is okay. But disrespecting that belief or opinion is not okay. Engaging is a good way of enhancing your logical thinking. It sparks your reasoning ability to share and enhance it with others. But you also need to take into consideration your willingness to accept and respect the reasons and logic of the person/s you are engaging with and rather build an informative and constructive debate. Humans need to understand and accept that in every situation, there will always be one that agrees and one that opposes because there is a balance to maintain. It’s like Yin with Yang. But at the end of the day, even if we do not agree on certain views, we can always choose to meet halfway. Always remember to be kind.
4. Filter the energies that you absorb.
The majority of what we think and feel doesn’t belong to us. Our mind is a powerful tool that has the ability to absorb other energies, thoughts and feelings around us. Some people are aware of this but most of us are unaware and unconsciously taking responsibility for these unwanted thoughts, feelings, and energies. Some energies are obviously showing itself to you and getting ready to devour you. So how would you deal with unwanted energies? It is by shifting your perception of dealing with life. It is giving more awareness to you and only you. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening?“, start asking, “What’s right about this that I’m not getting?” Ask in a positive tone and positive energy will simply draw its way back to you. Ask in a negative tone and negativity will engulf you before you know it. The same goes when engaging yourself in a conversation, listen and at the same time hear what the other person is saying. If it will lead you to destructive arguments, it is better to not engage. I once read that sometimes, it is best to keep your calm than to prove you are right. Because hey! Everybody wants to be right! Keep in mind that peace is more essential than being right.
5. Less judgments, more reasons to be grateful.
Gratitude is a powerful process for shifting your energy and bringing more of what you want in your life. Be grateful for what you already have and you will attract more good things.– Bob Proctor
We live in a judgemental world – just because it is human nature to judge every single thing they see. Well, this is the fruit of Eve’s labor, isn’t it? Judgments are unwanted energies that you do not want to fight against your peace of mind. Judgments make you insecure. It makes you lose your self-confidence. It makes you lose your ability to believe in yourself. It makes you doubt yourself. It pushes you to please people around you. Judgment makes you seek validation that you do not need because you alone is more than enough. It makes you forget to be grateful and appreciate things that you do have right now. Why is it easier to find judgments or faults from people around you than to find reasons to be grateful for? Because the majority relies on what people see and think about them. And this is a non-essential thing to waste your energy to. Spend time doing and thinking what is essential to your soul and be grateful for it. Always be grateful and it will bring abundance to your life. Now is the time to start practicing to judge less, choose something for yourself and be more grateful. And this I tell you, it is more fulfilling when you don’t mind what people say about you. Know yourself and know your abilities – and that is enough to survive every single day in peace. I live by these thoughts that if what people say about me isn’t true and will just hurt my soul, I’d better leave it to them and not make it mine. Whereas, if it will help nurture my growth, I will be grateful for it.
Everything that is happening to you is because you chose something. Having a choice is a privilege and a blessing that should not be taken for granted. If you choose to nurture your inner peace, I hope you grow it, flourish with it and share it with others. If you are choosing otherwise, I hope you can still find your way through this life fulfilled and grateful.
